Finals Schedule

We have a full class day on the 13th and 14th but we will be out at 1:30 on Wed, Thurs, And Fri.

Be sure that your student signs in even if they exempted a class.

Dear Parents and Students!  Your student is enrolled in the Career Academy at Round Rock High School.  I am presenting classes in Law Enforcement for the 2010-2011 school year.  We have a lot planned for the classroom this year and please understand that it may include some photos or discussions that are very graphic about crime
We will be watching some movies that are rated R and PG-13 so as a rule within the RRHS and RRISD Regulations; I am requesting your permission to show these movies that are within the scope of what your student is working on in the classroom.  As of today, the list includes:
Police Related:
Training Day (Rated R for Violence and Nudity)    Catch Me If You Can (Rated Pg-13 for language)
Bad Boys 1 and 2 (Rated R for Violence and Nudity)
Corrections Related:
Shaw shank Redemption (Rated R for Violence and Male Nudity)

Pelican Brief (Rated PG-13 for Violence       
 I am requesting your permission for your student who is attending my classes in Law Enforcement and Corrections to view these films.  If you choose not to have your student watch these films or any one particular film that you object to, please list the name of the film below so that we can send that student to the Library for that period.
We are also working on getting permission to use the Air Soft Rifle Range at the ROTC Center in RRHS.
Your student will need to have this permission slip signed in both the Movie and the Rifle permission slip areas to do both so please be sure that you fill out the form and sign it for them as quickly as possible.  It is due by Nov.22nd.

Law Enforcement Classes

In Law Enforcement 1 we have been working on Child Abuse, Personal Health and Safety, and discussing the mental health issues that officers face.

In Principles of Law we have been working on our crime definitions and watched "Catch Me If You Can" while we were talking about Federal Law Enforcement Agencies.

Enjoy your break and come back safe.

Child Abuse Poster Contest will end on Dec 15th and winner gets a Subway card worth $15.
New home work is the Adopt a Family project, donate or bring in a donation for a family in RRISD.

DIMM classes pre-Thanksgiving

In DIMM we have been working with Photoshop and today we finished a project with Southpark characters.  We will be finishing up our pictures of creatures from combined photos.

Update for Nov 9th and Classes

Just wanted to remind you all that we have permission slips that went out for the movies that we are planning to watch and also for the ROTC rifle range so be sure they are in before Thanksgiving break (they count for a grade).

LE 1 has done some handcuffing and fitness work and will move into Miranda and Searching issues.
LPSCS is completing the Kidnapping and Unlawful Restraint skits and will do the test.
DIMM is working on the Photoshop work sheets in Unit 2 on Image sizes and using the Brushes.

TSHIRTS ARE IN, $10 for all class members and $15 for others.

LE 1 and LPSCS

We are working on self defense and handcuffing procedures for the Law Enforcement 1 class this week and next and discussing the safety issue that apply.

LPSCS will be working in groups on the Kidnapping and Unlawful Restraint packets.
Groups will do a definition and a worksheet and create a skit to explain it to the rest of the class.
Groups will present the definition skits on day two.  Stay tuned for up and coming plans for the classes.

DIMM for Photoshop

All DIMM students are working on layers and saving formats for Photoshop.  Each student was given a packet on the week of October 25th and should be right about on lesson 4 or 5 as of the first week of November.  We will be working on our projects and using the concepts of photography from Ms. Syler's program.

Last week of October

We are coming in to the last week of October.  We are finishing up the crime scene and will work on our packets and documentation forms.  We are making packets that will become portfolios for the teams.

DIMM classes are finishing the photography section with their own photos and moving in to the Photoshop programs.  Please be sure that you have a camera or phone camera or hard copy photo with you.

DIMM Business Class

Our DIMM class will finish the job and career programs this week.

Next week we will have a presentation on photography and picture quality.

After that we are going into the Photoshop program.

Please begin collecting photos on your phone or your jump drive or bring them in and we will
scan them.

Upcoming Law and LPSCS Classes for October

We will be ending our packets soon and working on crime scene recovery and photography.
When that is completed, we will begin our crime scene.  Mr. Teddy Bear is ready and willing so hang on and enjoy the class. :)

Be sure that you are keeping up with the homework assignments.  I am still missing alot of the evidence
bags that were supposed to be turned in by students with a single hair in them and your name on the bag.

Please don't let these slip by you because it can take your grade down very quickly.

We will be doing packet work for the next week or two depending on how
quick you are in your groups.  Challenge for today is to think outside the box
and think about what you would bring to a crime scene as the tech or investigator.

DIMM Project Plans for this week

If you are in the DIMM class, the project is due by Weds at the end of class or during WOW if I gave you a pass.  You should have the top 5 from the MAPP Assessment and pick 3 to tell me a page each about why it fits or does not fit you.  Web search the job sites (Monster, Careerbuilder, or Hotjobs) to get three jobs that are posted in the San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, or Houston areas.  Copy and paste them to the project and print it.

We are working towards doing career applications to finish out the week.

Remember it is a WOW Weds, Late Start on Thurs, and Pep Rally on Fri.

End of Six Weeks

We are coming up on the Final exam for the end of the six weeks.
Testing will be the 29th and 30th.
Test will be on Bill of Rights and Definitions from Penal Code.

As we come upon the second six weeks we will begin working on
our crime scene search procedures and paperwork for LPSCS and LE 1.

DIMM class will continue on the Career projects seeking want ads on the
internet and posting them into our projects.

Thursday Sept 23rd

I have to be at ACC this day for articulation meeting. 

DIMM will keep working on the Career Projects Part 1 where you do the assessment
and then take the top 5 careers and post them on the page.  Next you pick three of those
top 5 and write a page each on those careers, what is it requiring and am I going to the right
college, etc.  Part 2 is beginning to do Online Job Searches.  You may use Monster.com;
http://www.statesman.com/; careerbuilder; or any others.  Cut and paste any two jobs available for
those jobs.  Try to find one in Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas areas.  I should be back on Monday.

LPSCS will be doing videos on Thurs and be sure that you write down 3 items you see or
that you disagree with in the videos.  Be sure and list the video on the page for me.

Be sure that you have your Homework ready for Thurs and Friday 23/24 as it will
be due.  Fingerprints or mug shot card or copy from Internet.

Essay Prompts for Law Enforcement I

Here are the rules and ideas to go by for writing the essays:

Essay Prompts:




Tell me about the Law Enforcement, Criminal Court, or Security and Corrections activities in the book.

Let me know what you think was real life in the book or what was legally done by the services in the book.

Is there something they did that does not sound true or cannot be done in real detective or correctional settings?

Was there a point in the book that anyone had their rights read to them and was it correct?

Was there a point that someone should have had their rights read and did not?

How up to date was the book as far as technology with DNA and other advances?

Why was this the book you chose for the essay and how did it relate to the course?

Would you recommend that other students in the class read the same book?



RULES:

These are just ideas to get you started. If you already have one, go with it.

Essays should be one page long and double spaced. You choose the font, size 12.

It should be Free of errors in spelling and can be submitted by email or on paper.

The page should include on the last line, “References: Author, year, book title.”

If you go over the one page that is fine but it must have at least two paragraphs and at least 12 sentences. Please include your name somewhere on the page and period #.

These essays are due by September 30th at the latest by 5pm.

This grade is worth 5 points, 1 for spelling and format, 2 for quality writing, and 2 for original thoughts.

Homework for LPSCS

Everyone did a great job on the homework and even the new students managed to pull it out.  Good job one and all.  LPSCS needs to be working on definitions like we discussed on the board, ie. felony, double jeopardy, due process.  We will be working more with that this week.

DIMM Students, we will begin working with Powerpoint and reviews of the Internet Policy for RRISD.  Any help that you need can be gotten at MS Office Help or email me at lynne_albright@roundrockisd.org and we will make a plan to meet and work on it.  You may want to start looking at colleges as we will probably be using them for power point projects that are upcoming.

Letter to Students and Parents

August 24, 2010


Welcome Parents and Students! Your student has entered the Career Academy at Round Rock High School. We will be working on all kinds of programs this year and I am presenting classes in Law Enforcement and Business for the 2010-2011 school year. My goal is to find out what your student wants to learn and make it as interesting as possible while meeting what the State of Texas has set up as the Texas Education Knowledge Skills or (TEKS) for these courses. We have a lot planned for the classroom this year and please understand that it may include some photos or discussions that are very graphic about crime. We also are looking forward to seeing you when you come and visit for the Open House on September 13, 2010 at 6:30pm so please place it on your schedule today.

We will be reading a book each six weeks per student and I will have a selection of books that they must choose from or get prior approval before reading it for the assignment. I will have some copies in my room and some in the library for check out. Each student will be writing a one page essay on the book for a class grade. If your student likes to read a specific genre of books, please have them let me know so we can find one in that area. They will have some homework and I will post a blog prior to giving the students the assignment so you can keep track of what is due but the majority of the class work will be in the classroom or on the campus grounds.

All students will need to bring:

A binder or Journal or Spiral notebook or folder to keep notes together in one place

Pencils and Pens as needed and a Highlighter, color of your choice

Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm Classroom (or on) Duty, call for conference times 464-6251

Wednesday 4pm to 6pm Tutoring and or class help

Classroom Rules:

Students will not- bully, harass, chew gum, usage of a phone, curse, or IPod during class. Students will follow the RRISD and RRHS Rules of Conduct in addition to classroom rules. Students will be reminded once during class time for violations unless it is a criminal offense. Students will be conference with for a second occurrence. Referrals and Administrative action will be taken if a third occurrence happens.

Grading: Reading Essays 5% each six weeks (4), total 20% Homework 5% each (6), total 30% Test at end of Unit 5% (6), total 30% Final DEC/ MAY, 10% (2), total of 20%

My name is Lynne Albright.
I am a retired Dallas Police Offier and a new teacher at Round Rock High School.
I have been with RRISD for three years but this is my first year at RRHS.
I look forward to working with your student.
I am teaching Law Enforcement and Business classes.
